I wanted Deadly Attraction to begin with something Lexi considers completely uncomplicated: one night, one stranger, no expectations.

Then I wanted to make that choice spectacularly inconvenient.

Once her private life becomes part of a murder investigation, the things Lexi normally values about herself, her independence, confidence and refusal to explain her choices, suddenly make her much harder for the police to read.

Roland only makes matters worse.

For me, the fun of this story was never simply putting sex beside a murder mystery. It was making attraction interfere with the investigation, cloud judgment and occasionally create exactly the wrong complication at exactly the wrong moment.
