The Vamp Upstairs began with a question I couldn't resist: what if the beautiful old building you bought came with something far more interesting than structural problems?

Nara's story became one about starting again after disappointment, rediscovering desire, and finding out that independence does not have to mean closing yourself off from surprise. I wanted the supernatural mystery to stay playful, seductive and a little dangerous, with a vampire who feels as though he genuinely belongs to the house that has been hiding him.

And, of course, there had to be the hat.
