One late shift. One hidden bar. One last shot she definitely won’t forget.
Tricia works punishing shifts at an exclusive restaurant while trying to keep her studies and finances under control.
She knows how to smile for tips. She knows how to handle demanding customers. And she is usually smart enough to recognize trouble before stepping directly into it.
Then she discovers the basement bar beneath the restaurant.
Warm, smoky, and hidden below street level, it feels like the opposite of everything happening upstairs. There are no polished tables, no wealthy guests pretending to behave, and no manager watching the clock.
There is, however, Bob.
He is the bartender, the owner, and exactly attractive enough to make Tricia forget that her cigarette break is already running late.
A quick vodka becomes flirtation.
Flirtation becomes an invitation to return after closing.
And when Bob offers to make Tricia a private cocktail, she discovers that his best recipe may be missing one very personal ingredient.
Last Shot is a fast, playful erotic short about temptation, dirty humor, reckless curiosity, and the kind of night that starts with one innocent drink and ends somewhere entirely different.
From the Author
Last Shot began life as a shorter story called Bar-Back. I always liked the central idea: a tired waitress discovers the hidden basement bar beneath her workplace, meets a bartender who immediately understands her appetite for trouble, and stays for one drink too many.
For this revised edition, I wanted Tricia and Bob to have more personality before the doors close. The story has been extensively rewritten with sharper dialogue, stronger chemistry, a richer bar atmosphere, and more room for the joke at the heart of the story to unfold naturally.
The result is still shamelessly naughty. It simply takes a much better route to the last shot.
